Back to the Wedding

So I've decided to do the blog I talked about in the last post, but I'm going to do it right and really prepare before I launch it. So I'll let you know when I get it done!

And now I decided that I should finish my posts about the wedding I went to in August before October hits! Lindsay's wedding was beautiful, the reception was awesome, and I now have another roommate married before me! :)

The most bizarre thing from this wedding happened at the reception though. The reception was at a Country Club, so we wanted to get some pictures on the golf course before going in. They went ahead and opened the buffet for the guests. When we came back in, Deborah and I started looking at the cake, then we went and looked at the groom's cake. It was chocolate and had a couple of chocolate covered strawberries. It looked a little funny and we couldn't figure out why...until a guest walked in between us, picked up tongs and took one of the last two strawberries off the top of the cake! The guests had eaten ALL of the chocolate covered strawberries off the TOP of the cake!!! WHO DOES THAT??? I've been to many weddings in my time and have never seen anyone even THINK about touching the cake before its cut! The photographer didn't even get pictures of it before it was picked apart. So sad.

Here are a few pictures from rehearsal dinner and the wedding.

My first limo ride ever! Going from the church to the reception. Notice the glasses still...stupid pink eye!!The newlyweds in the limo!Going out to the golf course....we got some really cute pictures in the golf carts.
Cutest ring bearer ever! This conversation went something like this: "Will you take a picture with me?" "No."

The remaining roomies with our new friend, Katie. She is the new girlfriend of one of our college friends and we LOVE HER!!!

That about sums up our wedding weekend! It's about time, huh?

I'm Back Baby!

So my sweet roommate overheard me whining about my lost camera cord and realized that since we have the same camera, I could use her cord! Hooray!! :)

Starting the trip back down memory lane...early August, I went to Amarillo for my college roommate, Lindsay's wedding! It's been a long time coming and I was so happy to be able to be there for her big day - especially because I almost wasn't. In true Emily fashion, I came down with Pink Eye the night before we were supposed to leave for Amarillo! But after an early morning trip to CareNow, I made my way there and was stuck in glasses all week. :(

First stop on Wedding Weekend 2008, Lingerie Shower!

Deborah, Nichole and I threw a fabulous Lingerie Shower. We played the best lingerie shower game ever (not really a game, but a fun activity that wasn't too cheesy and everyone really enjoyed! I'll tell you about it if you're interested) and had a cake that we made. It was really great.

1 Year Ago Today!

My friend Ashley Bruner married a great man named Matt and became Ashley Lee! Unfortunately, this was also the last time that I saw her because we both got crazy busy and never have been able to get together! Hopefully that will change soon, but for today, Congrats Ashley and Matt!

I think this picture is fun....and probably not one that her real photographer got, so thought I'd post it instead of a typical wedding picture. :)

Mexican Wedding Fun!

One of my good friends in the MBA program is a guy named Jaime. Jaime is Mexican. Not Hispanic, he is "speaks fluent spanish, part of the family still lives out of the country, had Mariachis at his birthday party, mom makes the best food ever but speaks no English" Mexican. So he calls me on Friday and says "Have you ever been to a Mexican wedding?" I said no and he said "They're not like White people weddings where you have to RSVP and everyone knows everyone and stuff...its just like a big fiesta and you need to come." So I did.

The wedding was at the Texas Girls Choir building. I showed up around 7:30 or so and the party was already in full swing. We ate some fantastic Mexican food, they had an open bar with beer, wine, and tequila (I had to have some tequila....my Mexican wedding experience just wouldn't have been complete!) and a Mariachi band played for 2 hours. Apparently Mariachi's cost about $600/hr, so 2 hours was a BIG deal! Right at the end of the Mariachis, they did the bouqet/garter tossing. So I go out on the dance floor expecting just to gather in a clump when Jaime's cousin says "Get ready to run!" Before I could even say "What??" my hand was grabbed by the girls next to me. The bride and groom stand on chairs in the middle of the dance floor while the mariachis play a song and an aunt led all the single women running in a line around the room, snaking through the dance floor, the tables, into the hallway, back through all the people watching, etc. for about 4 or 5 minutes! I was exhausted! Then they threw the bouquet and the boys did the same thing before the garter.

After that, the boys stripped the groom down to boxers and a tshirt and started throwing him up in the air! Once he got redressed, the money dance started. Girls and guys in pairs stand in line to pin money on the bride and groom and dance with them. So I danced with the groom. Then the 2nd band came - a mariachi polka band! We danced all night long. I danced with all of Jaime's cousins in true Mexican dancing style which I like to describe as Country dancing on speed. I had no clue what I was doing, but most of them were really good dancers and I was able to just follow. It was seriously a workout! I am sore today!

I had so much fun being the token white girl at the Mexican wedding...even though I couldn't talk to half of the attendants because they didn't speak English! But who needs to talk when you've got Mariachis to dance to!

P.S.
If Patty is reading this I'm sure she is freaking out right now! DON"T SAY MARIACHI!! (who can name the reference? Trey?)

Bridesmaids and Wedding Bouquets

This weekend, I was a bridesmaid at the wedding of my best friend from ACU, Ashley Bruner (now Ashley Lee). I could probably write about 100 different anecdotes about this weekend, including one about the tragedy of having a name changed to Ashley Lee, but for now, I want to talk about the tradition of tossing the bouquet.

Tossing the bouquet has always been a fun part of a wedding reception, all the single girls get in a clump and fight over the flowers in hopes of being "the next to get married." But in the past couple of years, this tradition has become a little bit of a downer. Not because I'm still one of the single girls, that doesn't really bother me, but the fact that I feel like I'm not allowed to catch the bouquet. This is because it has become a part of the tradition that the only person allowed to even TRY to catch the bouquet is the bridesmaid with the most serious relationship. Anyone else diving for the flowers is given the look of death and promptly asked to leave. Not really, but close!

So back to yesterday...I am not in a relationship of any kind, much less a serious one. One of the other bridesmaids, Bethany, has been dating a guy for a few months that she thinks is "the one." So before the toss, Bethany was talking about how she wanted it and Nichole said, "Don't worry, the rest of us will back away from it for you so you can get it." and tried to tell Ashley to throw it to Bethany. I was annoyed because I hate feeling like I can't even try just because I don't have a boyfriend. But when Ashley said, "I'm not throwing it to anyone! Whoever gets it, gets it!" I knew that this was my only chance. So we all get in our little clump, Ashley stands with her back to us, and makes the toss. It is headed right towards Bethany who is standing 2 people over from me, so I, in my freakishly tall glory (our shoes made me 6 ft. tall), reach right over the head of the flower girl and pluck it out of the air right in front of Bethany's face! I broke the mold! I did end up feeling bad though, since I don't have anyone to pressure into proposing, so I said that Bethany and I "tied" and gave it to her. But I know that I caught it and everyone thought it was really funny and an awesome catch! So even though I chickened out on my own version of Custer's last stand against unattached, single girl discrimination by giving Bethany the bouquet, I know in my own heart that I defeated the heinous crime that has happened to the grand tradition of bouquet tossing.
