Cake Escapades - Part 2

So Katie and I had another cake class last night. We had to move from our normal night of Monday to Friday because Katie took her M.S. cheerleaders to camp. We were a little sad to not be with our normal group, but we also thought it would be fun to see how the people in the Friday class were.

The Friday class was definitely smaller - each one of us had our own table so it was easier to work and spread out the tools. And Katie and I were still definitely the best. We learned how to make roses last night. I think I was the only one who got an actual rose-looking structure by the end of class, but both of us got the technique quicker than everyone else.

Then it came time to make the clowns that would go on top of our clown cakes. We practiced a couple on our cake boards and everyone else was doing them sitting up just like the picture in the book. Katie and I both started making ones that were laying down. Mine was laying on its stomach propping its hands under its chin and Katie's was lounging on its side with one hand on the side of its head. Our teacher walked by my table and picked mine up and started taking it around class to show everyone how good it was and how you can do different things. Then, when she brought mine back, she saw Katie's and picked it up to show everyone as well. It made us so happy! So on our cakes, we each made one clown sitting up and I made one on its stomach and Katie made one on its side. Only one other girl attempted the yellow side/white tops like we did and she was pretty good too.

Only one more week of Course I though - I'm a little sad. In course II you only make one cake at the very last lesson. But our bakery is getting closer every day!

Mmmm...Cake. My cake craving is still here. I went to a wedding tonight, which I was very happy to see the cake. Then Erin (from my class) got sick, and I was her ride, so I had to leave before the cake was cut. Much disappointment.

I am so impressed with you guys! When we lived in the same place I was always fascinated watching my mother-in-law (who is and always will be the queen of cake) decorate wedding cakes. Keep posting pictures; I will live vicariously through them!

Oh my goodness, your mother in law IS the queen of cakes! I totally forgot about that! I remember going over there for dinner one time and she had made this chocolate/peanut butter/ice cream cake thing and I asked her where she bought it and was SHOCKED when she said she made it! Maybe some day I'll be as good as Donna Root.

Yummm, I actually got to have a piece of the Clown cake pictured. I give 2 thumbs up to the dreamy icing, not overly sweet but light and sort of buttery with a cloud like consistency.

I can sell you a cake now. That is how most bakeries start - just working out of a house. Feel free to email me, egt00a@acu.edu if you actually want one!
