Is there an Insurance Agent in the house??

After working on this project about creating an insurance company owned by TCU for almost 2 months now, I have come to the realization today that I don't know a thing about insurance companies! I know, you'd think I would have figured out that I have no clue what I'm doing a little earlier than this, but I was so focused on studying TCU's alumni that I never got around to actually learning about insurance! So now I'm sitting here staring blankly at a 37 page Standard & Poor's report about the Property and Casualty Insurance industry not understanding a word of it. And I was supposed to have a summary of it to my team 2 days ago. The words are seriously just going in one ear and out the other (I don't know if that analogy really works for reading, but whatever). Underwriting profits, earned premiums, written premiums, balanced line underwriters, regulatory pressures....couldn't tell you what any of it means. And I'm only on page 2. Who's bright idea was it for me to get involved in this anyways? What was I thinking? Oh for February to come when I can be rid of this and the other consulting job I got myself into. One of these days I'm going to have to learn how to say no.

Katie and Stephen reminded me about Preston tonight at dinner. I"m sure I'll be calling on him before the end of February! :)

And yes, Ash, I saw your blog today. Yay!

Out of all of the things I was responsible for at my last job, managing the insurance was the absolute WORST part - for the same reason you are feeling - it is so dadgum confusing. I would try to talk the lingo when speaking with our agent and I felt so dumb because I never knew if I was using any of the terms correctly. Oh how I hated that part of my job. Give me an audit any day or EVERY day of the week...just don't make me try to understand too much about insurance. Hang in there and good luck! I'm kinda feelin' sick remembering all of this...so it's time to end this reply!
